Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this pattern beginner-friendly?
A: While the build is achievable by ambitious beginners, we recommend having some experience with leather tools and basic construction before tackling this project. The full Illume video class helps guide every step.
Q: Can I print this pattern at home on my regular printer?
A: No. This pattern is formatted for wide-format printing on a single sheet at least 30” x 60”. It is not set up for tiled printing on 8.5” x 11” pages.
Q: Can I build this bag without lining it?
A: Yes. While we recommend lining the rear panel with suede or thin leather for a polished interior and added structure, the bag can be built unlined without modifying the pattern.
Q: What kind of leather should I use?
A: For the main body, use a 5–6 oz chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned leather with medium firmness. For straps, use 8–9 oz bridle, harness, or strap leather.
Q: Can I sell bags made from this pattern?
A: Yes! We encourage makers to build and sell finished products using this pattern. However, redistribution or resale of the pattern file itself is not allowed.
